EXXONMOBIL USES MONORAIL FALL PROTECTION SYSTEM TO ENSURE WORKER SAFETY

Overview

Over the past one hundred years, ExxonMobil in Baton Rouge, Louisiana has grown from a refinery on 225 acres of cotton fields to one of the largest and most integrated petrochemical complexes in the world. ExxonMobil Baton Rouge also has the unique advantage of versatility in operations that comes from integrated facilities within close proximity. Products produced at the ExxonMobil Baton Rouge Refinery include gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, aviation fuel, lubricating oils, and waxes. In addition, products produced at the Chemical Plant—along with the Resins Finishing, Polyolefins, and Plastics plants—are used to make products we use everyday like paint, adhesives, plastic milk cartons, auto parts, plastic films, synthetic rubber, diapers, lubricants, and more. ExxonMobil believes that the safety of their employees, contractors, and the community is the most important aspect of their production and manufacturing process. According to Don Koerkenmeier, from the ExxonMobil Corporation, Exxon has an important rule that they take very seriously, “No one gets hurt.”

Solution

When confronted with possible solutions for industrial fall protection, ExxonMobil Baton Rouge purchased and installed a ceiling mounted monorail fall protection system from Rigid Lifelines to ensure the safety of their workers. The fall arrest monorail system at ExxonMobil is cross mounted using 24” drop rods to preserve floor space and ensure workers are protected without impeding on the production process. This particular system includes a 57’ monorail with 6” cantilevers on both sides.

Impact

The system provides workers at ExxonMobil the reassurance that they can get the job done effectively and safely. The monorail fall protection system from Rigid Lifelines allows Exxon to install single paths of fall protection coverage for their specific industrial facility needs. Users can install this particular system as one or multiple sections of track over one or more workstation locations. Each track utilizes a rolling Anchor Trolley that offers easy lanyard attachment and a fully automatic braking mechanism in the event of a fall.
