‘Twas The Week Before Christmas
December 24, 2014
‘Twas the week before Christmas and your dear spouse
Was trying to decorate the roof of the house
Strings of lights went up in the air
Installing them all can be difficult there
As you watch from below, you get a feeling of dread
You wonder if they could possibly fall on their head
They say, “Not to worry, I’ve done this before!”
Then it starts snowing and you worry more
You go inside after some idle chatter
You don’t want to harp on a safety matter
And then an idea pops into your head
“I’ll send an email to Santa instead!”
You explain that your spouse is in need of correction
Ideally they need rooftop fall protection
Santa replies with incredible speed
Safety has always been part of his creed
He says he will bring the right equipment
It’s his personal safety commitment
And then he arrives with fall protection smarts
As he calls out each one of the system parts:
“On harness! On lanyard! Connect carabiner!”
And then he shouts out with jolly demeanor,
“Attach to your anchor before doing more
With this easy system, it won’t be a chore!
Falls are quite dangerous, but nothing to fear,
As long as you have this equipment up here.
If you don’t use equipment at all,
Bad things can happen in the event of a fall.”
Santa starts helping your spouse with the task
He just started helping, no need to ask
They decorate the roof of your house
And you are less worried about your spouse
From head to toe they are dressed correctly
Donning their harnesses with PPE
Their lanyards provide them with fall restraint
No leading edge access, but there’s no complaint
Each strand of lights went up with great care
Placed on the roof so high in the air
They were always tied off to their anchorage connections
As they adjusted the lights and other corrections
Once they were safely back on the ground
Santa explained something truly profound,
“Safety is the best practice, you see
It should always be top priority.
Do your tasks safely while working at height
No matter the weather or amount of light.
It may take some time to learn the right thing,
But you’ll know it after thorough training.”
He smiled quite broadly with his face full of cheer,
“Do you have questions you need me to hear?”
There is one question that quietly gets asked
“How did you get that system so fast?”
He listened intently while stroking his chin
But then he answered with a big grin,
“Rooftop protection is never hard
