Water Treatment

Rigid Lifelines understands the wide range of potential fall hazards that water and wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) workers face. We have experience with the industry, having worked with small to medium-size municipal plants, as well as large private plants.

Problem

Water and wastewater treatment facilities present a challenging work environment with contrasting fall protection applications. No two treatment facilities are the same and a facility’s size may dictate the types of fall protection hazards that are present. Larger treatment plants may require access to large diesel engines, valves, or rooftops for maintenance at heights of 20’ or more. Medium and small size plants often have pumps located in lower level culverts. These pumps are accessed by wet stairs and are often surrounded by steep ledges. All plants deal with tasks around treatment ponds, clarifiers, and tanks which present drowning hazards. The risk of falling in a water or wastewater treatment facility is high, but Rigid Lifelines provides solutions that work.

Possible Solution

Portable Gantry Fall Protection Systems

Having access to a nonpermanent fall protection system at a water or wastewater treatment facility can be critical. A majority of these plants have numerous fall protection hazards, some of which may not become apparent right away. Having an adaptable solution like a portable gantry fall protection system, allows workers to manually move the system to a hazard when it is needed. Portable gantry systems are the perfect system for performing cleaning, maintenance, or repair work over pumps, pits, or tanks. Our engineered gantry fall protection systems come in a full line of heights and spans, and models that are adjustable for working on uneven or multi-level surfaces. Systems incorporate one or multiple enclosed steel tracks, allowing for easy hook up to a rolling trolley with the worker’s lanyard. These systems come standard with polyurethane wheels and locking casters, but can be outfitted with pneumatic or foam filled tires for specific application requirements. Learn More »

Possible Solution

Freestanding Cantilever Support Fall Protection Systems

If permanent access is required for jobs like the maintenance of pistons and rods on large diesel engines, or inspection of the perimeter of clarifying ponds, a Rigid Lifelines Freestanding Cantilever Support Fall Protection System is the perfect fit. These permanently installed systems are made of solid reinforced wide flange columns and cantilevered beams that extend our enclosed track above the application. Systems can be outfitted with one or multiple tracks, providing fall protection for one or multiple workers both indoors and outdoors. For clarifying tank applications our track can be laid out in a circular configuration providing a rigid and protected walking path with no possibility of hang-ups on brackets. Learn More »

Possible Solution

Fall Restraint Systems

Many water and wastewater treatment facilities have one or more buildings on the property that require roof access for maintenance and inspection of equipment. Rigid Lifelines Fall Restraint Systems provide easy hook up with no hang-ups while keeping workers from reaching the leading edge of the building. Our fall restraint systems use our side mounted rigid track in coordination with our side mounted smooth rolling trolley to provide a fall restraint path as needed. Systems can be designed for a straight run on one side of a building, or for all sides of the building where sections of curved track are used at the corners allowing for a worker to walk the entire perimeter of the rooftop. Rigid Lifelines fall restraint trolleys are fully capable of traversing curves without binding. These systems are typically mounted on raised posts that are secured to the rooftop. Side mounted track can be outfitted with Mylar stripping to prevent moisture or snow entry for cold-weather climates. It is important to remember that ANSI Z359.3 states that fall restraint systems only can be used in areas with a slope between 0 and 18.4 degrees. Any slope beyond this range requires a fall arrest system. Learn More »
