SPANCO, Inc. was founded in 1979 by owner Richard Uhlig. SPANCO’s original 25,000 square foot manufacturing facility was located in Downingtown, Pennsylvania. Our crane company started out manufacturing a small line of adjustable height portable gantry cranes, as well as a line of industrial tripods. As the business continued to grow, jib cranes and bridge cranes were added to the product line. In 1992 SPANCO introduced workstation cranes into the product line. At the same time, SPANCO built a new 95,000 square foot manufacturing facility on the edge of Pennsylvania’s Amish country in Morgantown, Pennsylvania. This facility remains SPANCO’s official headquarters and main manufacturing facility. In 2008 a second manufacturing facility was opened in Las Vegas, Nevada to accommodate consistent growth and serve our customers on the west coast. SPANCO manufactures all products in the United States. To learn more about SPANCO's overhead material handling products, please visit their website at spanco.com.
In 1996, SPANCO’s engineering department started to explore the possibility of using workstation track product for fall protection applications. After a year and half of extensive testing, SPANCO sold its first fall protection system into a racking application for a major big box toy retailer. Throughout the beginning of the new millennium, SPANCO sold many fall protection systems to many clients, both large and small throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This product line has been expanded to include ceiling mounted systems, long-span systems, fold-away systems, traveling bridge systems, portable monorail and gantry systems, single and multiple post systems, and fall restraint systems. In 2008 SPANCO opened a new fall protection division, selling a full line of rigid track fall protection systems under the brand name Rigid Lifelines™. To date, Rigid Lifelines™ has installed over 2000 rigid track fall protection systems without a single system failure or complaint. All of our systems exceed ANSI and OSHA specifications and utilize the most ergonomic track on the market.
