Problem
The aircraft industry faces many unique fall protection challenges due to workers working at varying heights, at multiple locations, in various applications. Rigid Lifelines offers fall protection for protecting workers at height for many of these specific aircraft facility related applications including those related to fixed-wing aircraft, rotary-wing aircraft, fuel truck fleets, and other ground support equipment fleets.
Hangars
Aircraft storage and maintenance hangars come in many different shapes and sizes. Rigid Lifelines has experience designing and engineering custom fall protection systems for new hangar design, as well as retro-fitting existing hangars, including Hardened Aircraft Shelters. We understand how important not only worker safety is, but also how important aircraft safety is. Rigid Lifelines hangar systems are designed to eliminate swing falls that minimize worker injuries and impact on aircraft panels. We offer two approaches to hangar fall protection.
Possible Solutions
Ceiling Mounted Traveling Bridge Fall Protection Systems
These systems are unique to the aircraft industry and perfectly accommodate hangars that house a variety of aircraft with varying wing and stabilizer heights, and changing positions. Each system is made up of two runways on which one or more bridges traverse. The bridge has a rolling trolley that provides an easy attachment point for the lanyard. The combination of the ergonomic movement of the bridge on the runways, and the trolley on the bridge provides for a dual axis of movement. This means unrestrained ease of use for the worker and total coverage under the system. It also translates into the fall protection being centered over the workers head at all times, something not possible with wire rope or I-beam systems. In the event of a fall, the traveling bridge system takes away swing fall hazard, or excessive swinging, an event that can occur during a fall and result in serious injury to a worker, or costly damage to the side of a plane. This style of system takes away the need to map the fall protection system to the shape or size of your aircraft. These systems also eliminate the need to use bulky and awkward portable systems indoors. Ceiling Mounted Monorail Fall Protection Systems
This style of system allows for single paths of fall protection coverage to be laid out to the needs of the application. A system might be made up of one section of track, or multiple sections of track suspended over one or more aircraft from the hangar structure. Each track utilizes a rolling trolley that allows for easy hook up with a lanyard. Tracks are suspended from drop rods to provide coverage over the fuselage, wings, and horizontal and vertical stabilizers. Curves and track switches can be added to the track to create a system that requires no unhooking, allowing all track to be interconnected and versatile. Portable Monorail Fall Protection Systems
This style of portable system provides overhead rigid fall protection over smaller fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft, as well as ground support vehicle fleets like fuel trucks. Portable monorails are easily maneuvered over an aircraft wing or fuselage. Easily assembled, portable monorails can be towed into position with a truck. Portable Gantry Fall Protection Systems
Portable gantry systems are a solid and reliable way of providing rigid fall protection over fixed wing and ground support vehicle fleets. They can be used indoors or outdoors where portability is the key factor or permanently installed overhead systems are not an option. Our portable gantry systems come in a full line of fixed and adjustable spans and heights. Systems can be moved manually, or motorized for unique applications.
